Creating a Microsoft Office 365 Delegate Account

  1. Go to Microsoft Office 365 Admin Center.
  2. From the top menu, click Admin and select Office 365.

  3. From the left navigation, go to USERS > Active Users and then click the + button.

  4. Specify Delegate Account information, including a temporary password, and then click Create.

    Note:

    Licenses automatically assign to the account. Unassign the license (9) because the Delegate Account does not require a license.

  5. Record the Delegate Account credentials (username and password). These credentials are also sent to the email address specified in the previous page.

  6. Click Close.
  7. Click the Delegate Account display name to configure additional settings.

  8. From the left navigation, click settings and then assign the Delegate Account the Service administrator role and specify an Alternate email address.

Part 2: Assign Specialized Roles To The Delegate Account

  1. From the upper right corner of the screen, choose Admin > Exchange to open the Exchange Admin Center.

  2. Click permissions and then the + button to create a New Role Group.

  3. Type delegation_service as the name of the new role group.

  4. Under Roles, click the + button.

  5. Add the ApplicationImpersonation and Mailbox Search roles.

  6. Under Members, click the + button.

  7. Add the newly created Delegate Account.

  8. Click Save.

    Office 365 updates the organization settings.

  9. Sign out of Microsoft Office 365.

Part 3: Change The Delegate Account Password

  1. Sign in to Microsoft Office 365 using the new Delegate Account credentials.

  2. Change the temporary Delegate Account password to a permanent one.

    The Delegate Account can now be used to log on to Office 365. Add the Delegate Account to the Cloud App Security management console through the initial pop-up window that appears or go to Administration > Office 365 Delegate Account > Add.
